Jacob Kingsbury Downs

Jacob Kingsbury Downs is an academic and musician based in the UK. His research specialisms include contemporary music, sound studies, continental philosophy, music technology, and empirical approaches to the study of music consumption and creation. He is Departmental Lecturer in Music at the University of Oxford, Chair of Faculty in the Faculty of Music, and Organising Tutor at Lady Margaret Hall. He is also Co-I on the UKRI-funded project ‘Influencing Environmental Values through Music (MusEnv)’, based at the University of Sheffield. He is also an active musician and arranger, with recent credits including Erland Cooper’s Folded Landscapes (Mercury KX/Decca, 2023).
